What's new in TypeWell Transcriber Version 8

TypeWell Transcriber Version 8 was introduced in 2020 and remains the current version of the TypeWell software. Below are some of the major features and improvements available in V8.

Here's what's new in V8 Transcriber:

• The English dictionary has increased from approximately 500,000 words to more than 4 million words. These include many science, technology, medical, and academic terms that real-time transcribers are likely to encounter.
• With integrated Zoom Linking, transcribers can stream their text directly into a Zoom meeting as captions.
• Optional "Favor More Common Words" setting for transcribers who work in less specialized settings or prefer a dictionary that behaves more like earlier versions of TypeWell.
• Optional Canadian English and British English dictionaries to accommodate different spelling conventions.
• Optional Spanish and French dictionaries (beta) are available for certain foreign-language transcription situations. These features are enabled on a case-by-case basis; please contact us for more information.
• Improved security and connection handling for Web Linking and Internal Linking features.
• Export and import Web Linking channels to make it easier to switch computers or maintain multiple workstations.
• Updated software licensing and activation process, including automatic license activation and simplified account management.
• When logged in to the program, users can access their TypeWell license account directly from within the software.

Notable updates since the initial V8 release

Since the original V8 release, we've continued to improve performance, reliability, security, and compatibility.
Recent highlights include:

• Improved Zoom caption formatting and reliability.
• Support for Zoom for Government (ZoomGov).
• Enhanced compatibility with Windows 11, including fixes for display lag introduced by recent Windows updates.
• Ongoing dictionary updates, including new words and improvements to capitalization, punctuation, contractions, and expansion behavior.
• Security enhancements, including updated encryption methods for Skill Assessment uploads.
• Improved Spanish-language transcription features, including smart speaker identification formatting.
