Not necessarily. TypeWell supports a variety of linking methods to accommodate different environments, devices, and levels of internet access.
On-Site Services
For on-site TypeWell services, an internet connection is not always required. The transcript can be sent directly from the transcriber's laptop to the reader’s device (such as an iPad or tablet) using a local wireless connection, even without access to school WiFi or the internet.
If no WiFi is available, the transcriber’s laptop can create its own temporary wireless network. This allows the transcript to be shared directly with any nearby device—such as a tablet or laptop—without needing internet access.
Remote Services
For remote TypeWell services, a reliable internet connection is required—either wired or wireless. This connection is necessary to:
- Transmit audio from the class or meeting site to the remote transcriber (usually via Zoom or another video conferencing tool)
- Deliver the live transcript back to the reader through a secure streaming link
