Fixing Text Expansion Issues in Google Docs When Using TypeWell Everywhere

Overview

Some TypeWell Everywhere users have reported issues when using Google Docs, where text expansion behaves unpredictably—such as doubling letters, incomplete expansions, or offset text. This is caused by Google Docs' automatic spelling correction interfering with TypeWell’s text expansion process.

Solution: Disable Google Docs' Auto-Correction

To resolve this issue, follow these steps to disable automatic spelling correction in Google Docs:

  1. Open a Google Docs document.
  2. Click on Tools in the top menu.
  3. Select Preferences from the dropdown.
  4. In the Preferences window, locate the setting for Automatically correct spelling.
  5. Uncheck the box next to Automatically correct spelling.
  6. Click OK to save the changes.

This should prevent Google Docs from modifying TypeWell’s expanded text, ensuring a smoother typing experience.

Additional Notes

  • If issues persist, try also disabling Grammar and Spell Check under Tools > Spelling and grammar > Show spelling suggestions / Show grammar suggestions.
  • Deleting any problematic text and retyping it after making these changes can help reset the document’s formatting behavior.
  • This fix only affects Google Docs and does not impact how TypeWell Everywhere functions in other applications.
